As a fan of snowboarding I thought it only right to write about the past attempts, mainly failures, some have made to break into this industry. At the time Snowboarding was in its heyday, everyone was getting paid their fair share, multi million dollars deals were being made, it was a cash cow and everyone wanted a piece of prime rib. So, it’s almost more surprising that there weren’t more products that tried and failed to make their way into our market. Whether it was following current trends in skateboarding, fashion or the mainstream, one thing all of these products had in common was their uncanny ability for their spark to be put out almost instantaneously. The industry was wide open pasture full of possibilities and innovation. Some of these had their time and some should have never left the apres bar napkin. So here we go, 6 times snowboarding made some absolutely ridiculous products.

6 Ridiculous Snowboard Inventions

By IV Stuart

1. Dual-Board

I have to say personally I’m very glad this one never quite took off. I remember seeing videos of it when they first started popping up on the scene, and it honestly seemed doomed from the start. Until I see someone holding it down in the streets on one I think it’s safe to say I will never be an enthusiast of the Dual Board.

2. Smoking Mitt

Wow. What can I even say about the smokers mitt? Incredible. Truly. As a large advocate of chiefing the occasional butt it’s honestly a mystery to me why this one never took off. And I would love to see a re-issue.

3. The Audio Beanie

Holy hell, man. I didn’t realize how many different brands made these until writing this. It’s safe to say the days of the audio beanie are behind us. But what a fun time, huh? Bluetooth was fresh, new, exciting, and you could link it straight to your beanie? Mind-blowing for some. But it was never for me personally, but I could see the appeal at the time I suppose. And it’s safe to say every company and their mom cashed in on this idea.

4. Beardo Hats

A big no for me, personally. I don’t think this look really helped snowboarding to appear cool to the masses. As much as you cool-kid snowboarders don’t care what people think, this wasn’t a great look, and I hope you can see that too. I hope you grew up, grew a real beard and forgot these ever existed. I also have to say I’m thankful it doesn’t quite meet the CDC guidelines, so hopefully you won’t be seeing these at your home mountain anytime soon.

5. Streetboardz- Boarder Kontrol

The most relevant “snowboard brake” I came across researching for this article, because the amount of patented brake-systems for snowboards on Google is frightening. This shit seems like a truly terrible and unsafe idea, honestly. It entails a blade sticking out of the bottom of your board. Imagine hitting rails with this on your board it would open up a whole new dimension of ways to get fucked up. Just overall terrifying.

6.Dragon DX Goggles w/ Skullcandy Headphones

Last but not least, a fascinating goggle design put out by the still thriving eyewear brand Dragon, along with the success Skullcandy brought in 2010. Sadly I don’t believe I had the pleasure of seeing this contraption in its prime, but I can respect the vision of these two companies to put out such a forward thinking product. And I also hope we can maybe see this design make a comeback in the 2022 line.
